These unique Clay Monotypes are each original works of art. The process starts with a flattened slab of stoneware clay that is allowed to dry leather hard. This slab becomes the “canvas”. Applying colored slips to the slab creates images. Slips are liquid clay the consistency of heavy cream that are mixed with permanent pigments. The slips are layered, altered with various tools, and inlaid with rollers as they dry. This is what gives the image its depth, texture, and richness of color. The image is transferred with pressure using a hand roller onto a special non-woven fabric where the depth and rich color of the work are exposed.

The process leaves the paintings archival since the clay is inert and the pigments are permanent and stable. They can be displayed in any light as they are, or behind glass, and enjoyed forever.
